A big step for a big girl

I don't think I have ever been more proud of Alexandra than I was today because she had to do something that was probably the hardest thing she has ever done in her short four and a half years of life- give up her paci. Now, if you know Alexandra, you know that her paci is her prized possession. She took to it at a week old and truthfully, would probably never be without it except for the fact that last year, she started the rule that she could only have it in bed. I have never seen her light up for anything the way she does for that paci. Since she was 4 months old, she could find them in her crib in her sleep, swap them all night long for cooler ones or fresh ones, and just about do anything with them in her mouth.

Alexandra knew the day would come when she would have to give them up, and honestly she used them far longer that she should have, but if you could see how much she loved them, you would understand why it was so hard to take them away. She attempted to when she turned four, and she did OK, but then it was too much for Drea and she gave them back and she has been a happy camper ever since. The final straw was that the dentist told her that she had to give them up for good because of the way her teeth were developing. Alexandra was so sad, she knew this would happen- she even told her mom she didn't want to go to the dentist because she was afraid she would tell her no more pacis. Her greatest fear came true-

Hawaii

I am so lucky that I got to go to Hawaii this summer with my sister and Alexandra this June. It ended up being just a few days before Lucas was born, but at the time, we didn't expect him to arrive for about 6 weeks.

Since Alexandra had just turned 2, she had to buy her own seat on the plane and she was sooo excited to be a big girl.  These are a few pictures of her in her own seat.

She is so cute when she says I do the seatbelt by my self.

Lucas

Lucas will be two in a month and a half and he is such a cutie pie- here are some things I love about him

1. He is trying so hard to talk- his please is pees and he rubs his tummy with a big gigantic smile that melts your heart.

2. He says body parts and points to them- he opens his mouth and puts his finger inside for mouth and pulls up his shirt for belly!

3. He has a temper- if you say no, watch out because he will throw something or knock something off the table or tear it up

4. Case in point, he walked into the bathroom with my iPhone while Alexandra was taking a bath- I said no and he chucked it into the tub as Alexandra yelled- I didn't do that Dana!

5. He will eat two bowls of cog chis- cottage cheese for breakfast and a box of raspberries- he loves his berries and cottage cheese

6. He is repelled by veggies or Chinese food

7. He loves running up and down the hallway with the dogs on a leash- his run is so cute- from side to side on his tip toes

8. He loves to hold your hand through the crib when he is falling asleep and he wants you to lay on big bear

9.  He has the cutest little chipmunk laugh and cute smile= he always has a pleasant look like he is enjoying life

10. He loves his big sister and he can say her name- AKSANDRA

11. Sometimes he takes her paci just to make her mad- he puts it in his mouth and walks around with a naughty smile

12. He starts all his words with oh- oh mamma, oh dana, oh mol (molly) etc- so cute

13. When he laughs he says oh dana if I am tickling him

Alexandra

Alexandra will be 4 in just over a month- here are some special things that I just love about her!

1. She has the cutest smile and when you pretend to tell her no, she throws her head into you and looks down and says "no Dana"

2. She loves her paci to death- I don't know what will happen if she has to give it away. She holds three or 4 when she is going to sleep- if you want to see her huge smile,  show her a paci.

3. She knows she shouldn't have a paci, when she sees June or Daddy she quickly hides them. One time she even threw one down my shirt when she saw June.

4. She is so sweet and caring- she calls the dogs and Lucas honey, baby girl, sweetie and darling and talks to them like she is an adult- so cute.

5. When I am laying with her before bed she asks me to tell her all the people who love her to help her go to sleep

6. She also asks me to tell her nice things to think about when she is trying to fall asleep.

7. She loves sleeping with her face on your arm, cuddled up next to you

8. She loves playing preschool and she reenacts the morning routine with her dolls or whoever will play with her

9. She loves singing Frozen songs- especially Let it Go and the Ice song

10. She tries so hard to be a big girl and to be helpful around the house

11. She loves Lucas and talks to him like his mother calling him honey and baby boy

12. She closes her eyes and nods her head with a knowing nod when she is telling you something important.

13. She is a book hoarder and loves to walk around with armfuls of books

14. She knows every dog in the park

15. She has a evil twin that comes out when she is tired- defiant and crying

16. She loves to snuggle when she wakes up - she is not a morning person

17. She has the best crazy hair!

18. She loves wearing pj's all day long- always puts them on for nap time!

22. She has a heart of gold and is so concerned about anyone who is crying or hurt and always tries to comfort them.

Disneyland March 2014

This year at school we had our accreditation visit. It was a lot of work and I could think of no way better to celebrate than to go to Disneyland with Alexandra and Lucas. They are 3 1/2 and 1 1/2, a great age for the park because they still have all the wonder and amazement which is why it is such a magical place to visit. I had a few highlights from the trip but below is my very favorite. Alexandra has character phobia. She wants to like characters but she just can't. She gets near them and freezes up and says no and usually buries her head in someone's shoulder and asks to be picked up. Well, at the Easter party near the BBQ place, they had springtime dancers and a man came out and asked Alexandra to dance. She was having a great time with him and then all of the sudden from behind came Mickey and Minnie Mouse to dance with the kids. She didn't know what hit her when Minnie grabbed her hand to start dancing. Now, in my head I was thinking this could go bad, but I think because she was trying to impress the "man with the orange shirt" she just went ahead and danced. She was so cute and the look on her face went from nervousness to pure pride that she did it! She ran over to us and exclaimed that she was no longer afraid of characters- so cute. She then wanted to get in line with her little Aurora costume and take a picture. The two below are priceless of her and Lucas talking to Mickey and Minnie with big smiles. It only lasted a day and the next day she was back to her character phobia but it was worth every penny of the trip to capture this moment!

Mr. Easter Bunny also turned out to be deemed OK while the character phobia was gone. Cute picture with both of them!
