A big step for a big girl

I don't think I have ever been more proud of Alexandra than I was today because she had to do something that was probably the hardest thing she has ever done in her short four and a half years of life- give up her paci. Now, if you know Alexandra, you know that her paci is her prized possession. She took to it at a week old and truthfully, would probably never be without it except for the fact that last year, she started the rule that she could only have it in bed. I have never seen her light up for anything the way she does for that paci. Since she was 4 months old, she could find them in her crib in her sleep, swap them all night long for cooler ones or fresh ones, and just about do anything with them in her mouth.

Alexandra knew the day would come when she would have to give them up, and honestly she used them far longer that she should have, but if you could see how much she loved them, you would understand why it was so hard to take them away. She attempted to when she turned four, and she did OK, but then it was too much for Drea and she gave them back and she has been a happy camper ever since. The final straw was that the dentist told her that she had to give them up for good because of the way her teeth were developing. Alexandra was so sad, she knew this would happen- she even told her mom she didn't want to go to the dentist because she was afraid she would tell her no more pacis. Her greatest fear came true-
